I Want to Help You With Spanish!

My name is Todd Hawkins (that’s Mr. Hawkins to you, punk), and I’m a Spanish teacher in central Indiana. Over the last 20 years, I’ve been studying my students to figure out all the little things that keep them from being the best students they can be. I’ve learned a lot—including a lot of things I wish somebody would have told me when I was in school. What I’ve found is that most students are much closer to being good students than they think they are—they mostly just need to learn to think differently about school and school work.

For most of my students, the problem has not been the need to work harder. Most students need to learn how to work more effectively: to get more learning for the time they already put in to school.

A foreign language teacher is in an excellent position from which to learn about students’ study habits, because foreign language classes tend to magnify the weaknesses in students’ study skills that are not so obvious in all their other classes.

As I walk you through things that I hope will help you to make Spanish easier, I want you to also learn how to make your other classes easier, by thinking about school in a new and better way.

Best of luck with the advice you’ll find at this site!

Buen Camino,

Mr. H.
